you may have caught this segment last night on anderson cooper 360 regarding food safety and where our food is coming from. oscar nominated movie food inc., is a must see for anyone who eats and wants a glimpse into the tangled web of industrial food production. this past wednesday, i went to visit one of the local farms, riverdog farm, that supply us at grange with locally grown organic produce and humanely raised hogs. i was already a fan of riverdog, having used them for just over a year now and have been extremely pleased with the product that we receive. we usually get a whole hog, averaging 250lbs. every other week for our pork needs. we make our own sausage, salumi and various pork preparations. my chef de cuisine, brad cecchi and I have a saying, "if you think it has pork in it, it probably does!" we love pork and especially this pork. in fact, we were on a mission on our visit to riverdog. the visit was more than a social visit to meet tim, brian & the crew at riverdog, but we wanted to see first hand how they raise these beautiful animals and also, to pick a couple of them out for our upcoming Bourbon & Hog Dinner, friday, march 19th. we will feature a 5 course hog menu paired with our very own custom reserve bourbon blend from woodford distillery, in kentucky. we hope that you will join us that night! you will not only be supporting our efforts at grange, but you will be supporting a truly great local farm that cares an awful lot about the well being of the animals they raise, the vegetables they grow and our local community. another benefit, you won't have to worry about where this food came from!
