Beyond Extra Virgin

5 chefs, 5 pigs & 5 winemakers, or in this case "swine makers!" the brain child of Brady Lowe of the Taste Network, held last night at the Fairmont Hotel in San Francisco. the cause, awareness and support of heritage breed pigs such as Gloucester Old Spots, Duroc, Berkshire , European Wild Boar/Tamworth, & Berkshire/Yorkshire cross. there was also great representation of some incredible small production wineries such as Ghost Horse World, Chase Cellars, Bonny Doon & Miller Wine Works were among them. the chefs that competed for the coveted title of "prince of pork" were, Ryan Farr, 4505 Meats, Nate Appleman , A16/SPQR, Staffan Terje, Perbacco, Ravi Kapur, Boulevard & winner Peter McNee of Poggio in Sausalito. P6140233

The event was a lot of fun, all the chefs did a fantastic job with their various preparations and interpretation of classic pork/whole hog artistry and craftsmanship.  it was a real treat to be able to sample so many fantastic dishes and flavors from not only the chefs but also from the great wine makers, as well as some of the local food artisans that were present like rancho gordo beans. yes, it was totally appropriate to have "pork & beans!"P6140263

Awesome! 500 lbs of pork plus great wine - not a bad way to spend the evening ;) Now I have to check out Poggio ...
